I have a 1967 Ford F-100 short bed that when I bought it, it was in fairly good cosmetic condition. However, the drive train was in a much different state.
I purchased the truck in April 2015 about 90 miles from my home. My father-in-law Rich, and I drove down to look at it. He noted that the engine, which is a ford 392 big block, wasn’t holding compression, and leaking a lot. He also pointed out that the transmission would more than likely need to be rebuilt or replaced because of the amount of fluid leaking out of it.
The rear end, was also in rough shape, it was showing signs of leaking – too. Other than the majority of the necessary components, the truck was in phenomenal shape. Rich pointed out a minimal amount of surface rust that can easily be fixed.
Despite having so many mechanical issues Rich and I decided that it would be a great truck to rebuild. We offered the seller what we believed to be a fair price, however the seller declined. The haggling went on a bit more – but we were unable to come to an agreement, so Rich and I left. I texted the seller a week later with an offer, which he accepted.
